The paper "NavTap: a Long-term study with Excluded Blind Users" was presented at ASSETS 2009, the 11th ACM Conference on Computers and Accessibility, in Pittsburgh, PA, USA, 26-28 October 2009.

BloNo, CleanDrive and Maximus were presented at Innovation Days,18-20th June, at the INESC-ID stand. The projects have called the visitors attention and were enthusiastically tried.

We presented two papers at DSAI 2009 - Software Development for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion Conference, one on facial expression recognition for augmentative and alternative communication and one on mobile guides for blind users.

We presented five papers and three posters at the Interacção 2008 conference, mainly in the areas of Personal Information Management and Mobile Accessibility. The papers were:

• "RealFind: Onde estão as actas do Interacção 2006";
• "Sketch-a-Doc: Esboçando um documento para o encontrar";
• "PersonalNews: A Nossa vida de relance;
• "StoryTags: Contar histórias para etiquetar fotografias";
• "Acessibilidade Móvel: Soluções para Deficientes Visuais".

As for the posters, we presented:

• "Criação Interactiva de Banda Desenhada";
• "CameraPhone: Interacção Baseada em Câmara";
• "EasyHouse: A Multimodal Domotic System for the Tetraplegic".

The paper Sketch-Based Retrieval of Drawings using Topological Proximity was presented in the Special track on Sketch Computing, in the Visual Language Computing workshop (VLC 08), in Boston, USA, 4-6 September 2008.

Our results on mobile accessibility were featured at the national science television show "2010". Prof. Joaquim Jorge and Dr. Carlos Bastardo from Raquel and Martin Sain Foundation were interviewed and Dr. Carlos (a blind user) demonstrated live the developed methods (29/07/2008, from 12m22s).

We hosted the Computational Aesthetics 2008 Conference in Carcavelos, Portugal, featuring Pat Hanrahan, Ernest Edmonds, Turner Whitted and David Salesin as keynote and invited presenters. The conference took place in Hotel Riviera (You can see some pictures on this web album). It was the fourth event on this topic following a Workshop in 2005 in Girona, Spain, a Dagstuhl seminar in Germany in 2006, and a Symposium in 2007 in Banff, Canada. Next year the conference will go to Victoria, Canada.

The paper Using Sketches and Retrieval to Create LEGO Models was presented in the Fifth Eurographics workshop on sketch-based interfaces and modeling (SBIM 08), in Annecy, France, 11-13 June 2008.

The Agrafo system was presented at the AVI 2008 conference in Naples, Italy, 28-30 May 2008.

The papers: Using Autobiographic Information to Retrieve Real and Electronic Documents, Blono: a New Mobile Text-entry Interface for the Visually Impaired, Emf: Extensible Middleware Framework, Mnemonical Gesture-based Mobile Interaction, IMPROVE: Collaborative Design Review in Mobile Mixed Reality and IMPROVE: Designing Effective Interaction for Virtual and Mixed Reality Environments were presented at the12th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction in Beijing (P.R. China).

Daniel Gonçalves defended his dissertation on Narrative Interfaces for Personal Document Retreval on July 3rd 2007

The paper Composition Principles for Quality Depiction and Aesthetics was presented at the International Symposium on Computational Aesthetics in Graphics, Visualization, and Imaging in Banff (Alberta, Canada).

Paulo Lagoá, Pedro Santana and Tiago Guerreiro have presented the BloNo project (BloNo: Mobile Notebook for the Visually Impaired) achievements at the UMIC Digital Inclusion Conference, in  Leiria, 2 April 2007. The event gathered presentations of all the projects executed under the POSC Digital Inclusion grant.

Last 16-18 October, we have been to Braga for the Second Portuguese Conference on Human-Computer Interaction - Interacção 2006. Among papers, short papers, posters and demos, we have done a total of eight presentations.

The paper "Assisting Mould Quotation Through Retrieval of Similar Data", was presented at the 3rd International CIRP Sponsored Conference on Digital Enterprise Technology (DET'06). It took place in Setúbal (Sesimbra) from 18-20 of September 2006. The paper describes a tool to support mould makers in their task of performing quotations for moulds.

We have hosted EGVE06 and EuroVis06, in Lisbon 8-10 May 2006

A short paper, "Evaluating Stories in Narrative-Based Interfaces", was presented in poster form at IUI'06 - International Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces. It took place in Sydney, Australia, from 29 January 2006 to 1 February 2006. The paper describes a study in which the accuracy of the information in document-describing stories was evaluated (and shown to be quite good, around 90%).

The paper "A Calligraphic Interface for Managing Agents" was presented at the 14th International Conference in Central Europe on Computer Graphics, Visualization and Computer Vision (WSCG'06), Plzen, Czech Republic, on the week starting at January 30th. This paper describes the current version of "editION", a calligraphic interface for agent management developed in cooperation with the Intelligent Autonomous Agents Group (GAIPS) from INESC-ID.

Bruno Araújo has presented the paper entitled A Calligraphic Interface for Interactive Free-Form Modeling with large datasets at the SIBGRAPI 2005 conference that took place in Natal/Brazil.

We organized the Workshop on Sketch Based Interfaces and Modelling in Dublin, which gathered 35 people. See more details at the workshop webpage.

Bruno Araujo presented "Curvature Dependent Polygonization of Implicit Surfaces", at SIACG'04/SIBGRAPI'04, in Curitiba, Brazil, and presented SmartSketches to LSI/USP (Sao Paulo).

The paper "Mixing Images and Sketches for Retrieving Vector Drawings" was presented at the 7th Eurographics Workshop on Multimedia (EGMM'04 ), Nanjing, China, October 2004. Simultaneously, SBR and GIDES++ was demonstrated to several research groups.

We have organized the Eurographics Workshop on Sketch-Based User Interfaces and Modeling. The workshop took place on August 31 and September 1 in Grenoble. It was attended by 48 participants who discussed 21 papers. The technical program can be consulted here. The venue was a great success. As a result, the Eurographics Association has created a Working group on Sketch-Based User Interfaces and Modeling. The next venue is planned to take place in Dublin Ireland, just before Eurographics 2005.

Poster over "MIBlob: A Tool for Medical Visualization and Modelling using Sketches" was presented at the 31st International Conference on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques (SIGGRAPH2004), Los Angeles, U.S.A., August 8-12th 2004. (Get the Poster Version presented)

Poster on " Retrieving ClipArt Images by Content" was presented at the International Conference on Image and Video Retrieval (CIVR'04), Dublin, Ireland, July 2004.

3GM project wins Fujitsu-Siemens award for best Computer Graphics project at IST University, Lisbon, Portugal.

New Web design for the IMMI site is now available.

There was a presentation on CGEMS at the Eurographics 2003 Educational Program in September 2003

Our group presented CGEMS at ACM/SIGGRAPH in San Diego on July 2003.

Two communications and two demos were presented at IUI'2004 in Funchal, Madeira, January 2004.
