VIMMI at Innovation Days 2009
BloNo, CleanDrive and Maximus were presented at Innovation Days,18-20th June, at the INESC-ID stand. The projects have called the visitors attention and were enthusiastically tried.
Presence at DSAI 2009
We presented two papers at DSAI 2009 - Software Development for Enhancing Accessibility and Fighting Info-exclusion Conference, one on facial expression recognition for augmentative and alternative communication and one on mobile guides for blind users.

The paper Sketch-Based Retrieval of Drawings using Topological Proximity was presented in the Special track on Sketch Computing, in the Visual Language Computing workshop (VLC 08), in Boston, USA, 4-6 September 2008.
Mobile Accessibility for Blind Users at "2010" TV Show
Our results on mobile accessibility were featured at the national science television show "2010". Prof. Joaquim Jorge and Dr. Carlos Bastardo from Raquel and Martin Sain Foundation were interviewed and Dr. Carlos (a blind user) demonstrated live the developed methods (29/07/2008, from 12m22s).
Hosted Computational Aesthetics 2008 in Carcavelos, Portugal
We hosted the Computational Aesthetics 2008 Conference in Carcavelos, Portugal, featuring Pat Hanrahan, Ernest Edmonds, Turner Whitted and David Salesin as keynote and invited presenters. The conference took place in Hotel Riviera (You can see some pictures on this web album). It was the fourth event on this topic following a Workshop in 2005 in Girona, Spain, a Dagstuhl seminar in Germany in 2006, and a Symposium in 2007 in Banff, Canada. Next year the conference will go to Victoria, Canada.

BloNo presented at UMIC Digital Inclusion Conference
Paulo Lagoá, Pedro Santana and Tiago Guerreiro have presented the BloNo project (BloNo: Mobile Notebook for the Visually Impaired) achievements at the UMIC Digital Inclusion Conference, in Leiria, 2 April 2007. The event gathered presentations of all the projects executed under the POSC Digital Inclusion grant.

Last 16-18 October, we have been to Braga for the Second Portuguese Conference on Human-Computer Interaction - Interacção 2006. Among papers, short papers, posters and demos, we have done a total of eight presentations.
Paper presented at DET'06
The paper "Assisting Mould Quotation Through Retrieval of Similar Data", was presented at the 3rd International CIRP Sponsored Conference on Digital Enterprise Technology (DET'06). It took place in Setúbal (Sesimbra) from 18-20 of September 2006. The paper describes a tool to support mould makers in their task of performing quotations for moulds.

Short Paper at IUI'06
A short paper, "Evaluating Stories in Narrative-Based Interfaces", was presented in poster form at IUI'06 - International Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces. It took place in Sydney, Australia, from 29 January 2006 to 1 February 2006. The paper describes a study in which the accuracy of the information in document-describing stories was evaluated (and shown to be quite good, around 90%).

The paper "A Calligraphic Interface for Managing Agents" was presented at the 14th International Conference in Central Europe on Computer Graphics, Visualization and Computer Vision (WSCG'06), Plzen, Czech Republic, on the week starting at January 30th. This paper describes the current version of "editION", a calligraphic interface for agent management developed in cooperation with the Intelligent Autonomous Agents Group (GAIPS) from INESC-ID.

EG Workshop on Sketch-Based User Interfaces and Modeling
We have organized the Eurographics Workshop on Sketch-Based
User Interfaces and Modeling. The workshop took place on August 31 and
September 1 in Grenoble. It was attended by 48 participants who discussed 21
papers. The technical program can be consulted here. The venue
was a great success. As a result, the Eurographics Association has created a
Working group on Sketch-Based User Interfaces
and Modeling. The next venue is planned to take place in Dublin Ireland,
just before Eurographics 2005.
